Overview hydroxy functional silicone oils

The hydroxy group in hydroxy-functional silicone oils and silicone oil emulsions is usually terminal. The usual reactions for hydroxy groups can be carried out on them. With increasing molar mass and viscosity of the polymer, the influence of the hydroxy group on the properties decreases, so that the high-molecular hydroxy-functional silicone oils behave practically like non-modified silicone oils.
 
In addition to pure hydroxy-functional silicone oils, which only dissolve in solvents, aqueous emulsions of various hydroxy-functional silicone oils are available. These can be formulated in aqueous systems. After evaporation of the water, the hydroxy-functional silicone oil remains, the properties correspond to those of a solvent system after evaporation of the solvent.
